Asthemainaimoftheportraitphotographerisgenerallyto
capturealikeness,ortruerepresentationofaperson,the
lenses mostly commonly used would fall more into the
mid-sectionofthefocalrange.Satisfactoryportraitswillbe
achieved with 50mm–200mm lenses, depending upon
variousfactorssuchasdistancefromthesubjectandthe
styleofportraitthephotographerwishestotake.However,
increativeterms,thosewhounderstandtheprinciplesand
limitations canthenpushtheboundariesofthemedium.
Thesearethephotographersthatproducethemoststriking
andvisuallystimulatingportraiture,astheyarebeyondthe
boundaries of normal portraiture.


FOCUS

WithalldigitalSLRstherewillbevariousoptionsforthe
photographerandhowhedecidestofocusonhissubject.
Specifically within the genre of portraiture, the
photographer willusually be focusing on facial features
andmoreparticularly ontheeyes;however thiswillnot
alwaysbethecase,anddetailedunderstandingofhowto
controlandmasterthefocusingsystemonyourcamerais
key.


AlldigitalSLRswillhavetheabilityforthephotographer
to focusmanually(M)using thefocusring onthelens,
although this is slow and time-consuming especially if
shootingwith peoplewhoareconstantly movingaround.
