Spot Autofocusing

Asingularspotofthegridcontrolstheareaoftheimage
thatistobefocusedupon.Thiscanbeanypartofthegrid
andcanquiteeasilybecontrolledbytheuser.Forexample,
ifyouwishtocomposetheshotwiththesubjectplacedon
thethird,youwillchoosethecorrespondingfocuspointin
camera;thisisthemostaccuratewaytousethissystem.
However, some may find it slowand fiddlyto control,
especially ifshooting at afast rate where thesubject is
constantly moving around the frame.


Another option open to the photographer is to use the
centralfocusingspottofocusonthepointyouwishtobe
sharp,andthenrepositionthecameratocomposetheshot,
asthismaybeafastersolutionwhenfocusingonmoving
people or children in portraiture.


ComposingtheimageincamerausingtheAFcanbevery
useful in the field of portraiture, although many
photographerswillchoosetoshootfastanduntetheredso
astokeepmomentumandenergylevelshigh,sothatthe
subject is engaged and interested at all times.


Differential Focus and Selective Focus

Differentialfocusisawonderfulphotographicdevice for
storytellinginimages.Itcanbeusedtogreateffectwhen
used in a series of images. For this technique to be
successfulthescenewillneedtohaveacertainamountof
depthinitalready,andawiderapertureisneeded.Rather
