Partial Metering

Thepartialmeteringsystemwillbehaveinthesamewayas
spotmetering,although drawnfrom a largerareaof the
image,ingeneralbetween 10 and 15 percentoftheframe.
Both spot and partial metering should be used when
lightingconditionsmaybedifficultforthecameratoread,
such as situations with high contrast as explained
previously, or when shooting into light.


Centre Rated Average

Availableonallcamerasystems,thisformofmeteringwill
drawitsreadingfromthewholeoftheframe,withpriority
giventothecentremost60–80percentoftheimage,andis
agoodindicatoroflight.Howeverasitiseasilyinfluenced
bylargeareasoflightanddark,thesecanthrowthereading
off.


Matrix metering (multi zone metering)

Matrix metering is a system which will take into
considerationmanydifferent factorswhenarrivingatthe
correctexposure.Primarilythissystemtakestheaverageof
readingsfrommanydifferentpointsintheframe,andthis
will give a good base for a correct overall exposure.
Readingswillalsobetakeninthesameframefromcolours
within the frame, and other factors such as where the
autofocushasbeensetwillprioritizewhere thereadings
are taken from.
