READING THE HISTOGRAMReadingthe histogramcan beaveryusefultool when
tryingtometeranimagecorrectly,andshouldbeviewed
in conjunctionwith the meteringsystems asexplained
here.Thehistograminitssimplestformisarecordofallthe
tonalrangescapturedbythecameraandhowtheyare
distributed.Onthefarleft-handsideofthehistogramthe
levelsofabsoluteblack(avalueof0)arerecorded,and
onthefarrightarethelevelsofabsolutewhite(avalueof
255).Inbetweenthesetwopointswillbevaryingdegrees
of tones of grey. The height of the histogram at any
particularpointisarepresentationofthenumberofpixels
of that specific tonal value.
