Chapter 6: You’re Invited


I love the story of Moses because I feel I can personally relate
to him so well. He was a man called by God to lead his people
to freedom, yet he didn’t feel he was the right guy for the job.
He felt inadequate and thought, Surely God made a mistake on
this assignment. I’m not the right guy. Moses was even brave
enough to tell God this:


Moses said to the LORD, “Pardon your servant, Lord, I
have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since
you have spoken to your servant. I am slow of speech
and tongue.” The LORD said to him, “Who gave human
beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute?
Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I,
the LORD? Now go; I will help you speak and will teach
you what to say.”

But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please
send someone else.” (Exodus 4:10–13)

Moses felt so unqualified for the job God called him to do.
Moses thought he had to be somebody before God could use
him. I don’t know about you, but I’ve found myself having
those very same thoughts. But you know what? We have it all
backwards. Because of our relationship with Jesus, we already
are somebody, a treasured and loved daughter to the King of
kings (Romans 8:16–17), and Jesus has already equipped us for
the task He is calling us to do (Hebrews 13:21). We just need to
