revolution, and later he became an eminent pro-democracy journalist.
He was jailed from 2001 to 2006 after publishing a series of articles and
books on the murders of dissident authors, known as the Chain Murders
of Iran. In 2005 he started a forty-day hunger strike, seeking unconditional
releasecall backed by the U.S., the European Union and international —a
human rights organizations. He was released from prison in March 2006
