Haemin Ko already had an idea of
the kind of animation she wanted
to make – she just didn’t know
how to go about it. So her masters
in character animation was the
final piece of the puzzle, and she’s
now raring to go.
Ko’s animation No Body was
created using charcoal, a medium
chosen for good reason. “One of
the most important things I focus
on in my work is the emotional
language,” she explains. “So, in
this charcoal animation, I used
traces of rubbing, scraping and
erasing the paper by hand to
express such emotion.”NEW TALENT 2019

“Materials, colours, textures,
composition and processes help
me to convey atmospheres and
narratives,” says Clementine
Thomas. The project featured
here “draws parallels between
pockets and burrows to
communicate our primordial
reaction to the onset of winter.
Both are places of comfort and
warmth. These qualities were
translated into hand-made
clothes and compositions that
illustrate two worlds.”
