The biggest thing Kizzy Yuill’s

course taught her was the power

of experimentation. “I feel like

my best projects happen when

I let them run away on a tangent,

rather than immediately

visualising the outcome,” she

says. Her project, Heavy Flow, is

a chunky display typeface

inspired by Manchester’s iconic

Mancunian Way. “The

letterforms are designed with

wide curves, which mimic the

vast cornering of the bridge and

overlapping loops of the slip

roads,” she says. “The letters flow

into one another, as the

Mancunian Way links the

opposite sides of the city.”
