Alastair Vanes fondly describes
Central Saint Martins as “one of
the best and most diverse arts
universities in the world: there’s
so much to appreciate and learn
from what people bring to the
table from across the globe.” His
project, Beyond the Macrocosm,
combines a publication and a
series of 3D animations, adapted
into a VR experience, that
together explore the possibilities
of virtual space.
“Inspired by the illusory work
of MC Escher, the project shows
the potential of virtual world-
building as a means to visualise
the intangible and the complex,
and illustrate beyond what we
know to exist,” Vanes explains.

ADELE JURAŽA
BA Graphic design
Edinburgh Napier University

Adele Juraža describes herself as
“obsessed with editorial design:
there’s something about the
relationship between type and
image that gets me so excited”.
Currently working as a designer
for craft beer magazine Ferment,
her project Book as Object is a
limited collector’s edition of
three books by Albert Camus.
“I used elements of each story to
find a narrative for each cover, as
well as the colour, to pull all
elements of the design together.”
