PROJECT DIARY AUGUST 2019

COMPUTERARTS.CREATIVEBLOQ.COM

was a big part of the process. We spent many
hours with syrup bottles and Pantone charts
perfecting them.
The brand is new and we wanted it to stand
out in the supermarket and on the cramped
shelves of a busy bar, so it’s strong and in focus
on each label. Lower down in the hierarchy is a
simple description of the flavour variation – such
as ‘Passion fruit, Oolong Tea, Turmeric’ – along
with a little illustration of the main ingredient.
To indicate that the syrups are all locally
handcrafted and the care that goes into
the product, we designed a ‘handcrafted in
Copenhagen’ stamp device and added a few
places where The Syrup Company could write
in the batch number, date and name of the
person doing the bottling. We chose label paper
with a strong, regular structure to support the
handcrafted feel. The logo received a transparent
relief varnish on the labels to pop and shine.

THE VERDICT
Brini Fetz
Our collaboration with The Syrup Company was
very open and we had lots of meetings with them.

There was a major alteration to the direction
of the project early on, which put us a little
behind schedule, but everything went smoothly.
Communication is king on any branding project.
Because they were creating a completely new
product and brand, we became a big part of the
product development too, which was exciting
and rewarding, giving us a good understanding of
where their products are going.
The biggest challenge was demonstrating
the special flavour of each syrup visually on
the labels. We worked with different graphic
systems, symbols, illustrations and colours, and
eventually strong colour coding and a simple
illustration of the main ingredient worked best.
Taste is very subjective, and we had lots of
discussions with the guys about how to translate
it on to the bottle.
The client is very happy with the results and
there has been good feedback from the industry.
All the late nights were well invested and we’re
very happy with the outcome. The project has
been shared on several platforms around the
world, and now we’re working on label designs
for three new flavours.
