JOHN SMART, CREATIVE CHALLENGE:
AVOID THE RULE OF THIRDS
NEIL GORDON, CREATIVE CHALLENGE: REPRESENTING EMPTINESS
ELAINE BIRK, CREATIVE CHALLENGE: MEANINGFUL SELF-PORTRAITS
a paper bag, for almost three hours,
everyone scattered around the vast
property, which houses a pond, trees,
fallen leaves, cars, flowers, fruit trees,
buildings, logs, pathways, and more,
intent on interpreting their challenge,”
recalls Moira.
Challenge topics included such activities
as making photos that represent
emptiness, shooting 100 images of
a single object, creating meaningful
self-portraits, and photographing “all
aspects” of a stranger.
Moira reports that, by the end of
the day, participants had been
thoroughly challenged and had found
delight and satisfaction in their own
personal discoveries.
“They left armed with the knowledge
of how to lose those feelings of being
a headless chook and move forward
with discovering their creativity, finding
their style, and being able to create
new pictures,” she says.
Those looking to get a similar feeling
of achievement in the realm of portrait
lighting should mark 10 August on the
calendar, as that is when Scott Fowler
will share his experience in studio lighting
and posing while guiding participants
through four unique lighting set-ups.
The PSNZ Workshop Series 2019 is
