The Lume Cube Air also has a magnet at the
back, allowing it to be attached to any metal
surface easily. I absolutely love this clever design.
Image 6 is a photo I shot with my camera placed
inside a washing machine. As you can imagine,
there really isn’t a lot of space there, but I needed
a light inside to light up the washing machine
and my face. I was struggling to do that with my
camera flashes, as they are all too big. Also, I
couldn’t find an easy way to put the light right
at the centre of the washing machine so that
I could light up everything evenly. I suddenly
thought of the Lume Cube Air; I put it inside the
washing machine where it just snapped onto the
centre of the machine drum and gave me the
lighting I wanted! Problem solved!
As the Lume Cube Air has a magnet,
mounting it on a drone is not recommended,
as the magnet may interfere with the drone’s
operation. Despite being bigger and heavier, the
Lume Cube is more suitable for this purpose.
Both lights are waterproof, so it’s not a problem
if you are shooting in the rain; you can even
place them under water. This is something
you can’t do with most normal camera flashes
and lights.
The company has also developed a smartphone
app to use with the Lume Cube lights. The app
is called ‘Lume-X’, and it is available on both
iOS and Android. Once you have paired your
smartphone with your Lume Cube light(s), the
app provides a very easy way to control them.
It can also act as a camera app for you to take
photos using your smartphone’s camera and the
Lume Cube light(s) to light up the scene.
Pairing the light with the smartphone is a super
quick and easy process. The app even helps
you register your Lume Cube light with your
Lume Cube’s serial number automatically once
the pairing is done. Lume-X’s user interface is
very clean and responsive. Considering that even
major camera brands quite often can’t get their
smartphone app to look good and operate well,
I’m really impressed by how well designed and
polished Lume-X is.
