The Purpose of Rituals and


Magick


Because of the effectiveness of magick, and the
simplicity of candle magick in particular, it has been
feared by many people throughout its long history, even
though candles are part of many contemporary religions.


Most candle magick is done by people who say they
do not believe in magick. Candles are lit in a room
simply because someone thinks it "feels" good to do it.
Certain aromatic candles are used to cleanse the
atmosphere and give calmness to the occupants of the
house or apartment. Candlelight dinners create a
romantic mood. A birthday cake with lighted candles
celebrates another year of life. These are all magickal,
psychic, and psychological rituals that speak to the
human heart. Yet they are performed by people who
have no conscious intention of doing magick.


Our lives are filled with rituals, the majority of them
of mundane nature. Ritual is any repeated act. We
routinely do certain things every day with the
expectation of certain results. We brush our teeth, take a
bath, eat meals, watch the news, work, and some of us
may go to a religious gathering. Therefore, we are all
acquainted with rituals and can understand what they
are. Rituals give cohesion to our lives. It is only when
ritual is connected with magick that the confusion
begins.


Joining Rituals and Magick

Actually, there is nothing that mysterious about magick.
Magick is simply the altering of events through
willpower. Ritual magick is the taking of energy from
another plane of existence and weaving that energy,
