This is a hugely important new privacy feature that

could save you lots of trouble

Sign In with Apple,

and only Apple

T

he loss of iTunes may sound
like a big deal, but you can rest
easy because the combination
of Apple Music, Apple TV and Apple
Podcasts will effectively fill the gap that
the legendary app leaves in its wake.
You will, of course, lose the ‘one place
for all’ solution that is iTunes, but you will
not lose any functionality at all.

New homes
Your current music library will be
available in Apple Music, even ripped
CDs etc, and the biggest change you will
see is one of location rather than your
actual media. The new drive to services
explains why Apple is making this move
and chances are that many more people
will start subscribing to Apple Music,
and of course we do not know yet what
other services Apple will be launching
for movies and TV in the future. There is
likely a grander plan behind this move
and you really should not worry about
the loss of iTunes.

Y

ou will no doubt be aware of the
ability in iOS to automatically
input saved passwords and
user names, but Apple has now taken
this process a whole lot further by
attempting to circumvent third-party
services with its own new feature.
The ‘Sign In with Apple’ setup works
in Safari and through third-party apps by
allowing you to generate a random email
account so that your own information
remains private. Your Apple ID credentials
are used, but these are not seen by any
other service and there is full support for
Face ID and Touch ID to complete what
is a more secure and much more private
way of signing into accounts, and in

particular when setting up new accounts
for services you want to use.
It is possible that there will be some
pushback from services that really need
