he new Home screen in iPadOS
offers much more immediate
information than the basic
selection of icons that were previously
on offer. The ‘Today’ view will display the
exact information that you have chosen
to see and this takes advantage of the
bigger iPad screens that have previously
felt just a little too much like big iPhones.
Dark Mode is of course present in
iPadOS, which adds a new interface to
play within and overall the design tweaks
make the later iPads feel more like real
computers than ever before. They still,
however, work the smooth iPad way.

T

here is no doubt that Memoji are
brilliant and a perfect example of how
to marry hardware and software in
a way that feels obvious and natural every
single time you use them. In iOS 13 Apple has
taken the idea even further by allowing you to
share stickers based on the creations you have
made already. There are two aspects to this
that make the idea so impressive. Firstly, they
are automatically created when you build a new
Memoji of your likeness so you do not have to
spend any extra time building different looks
and emotions. Secondly, the sheer quality of
the stickers is surprisingly good, even for Apple,
because you are immediately presented with
a range of emotions and looks that will work
well in all kinds of conversations. They tick the
box that Apple is aiming for, but think about
this for a moment. If you had the chance to
use normal emoji in conversations or ones that
represent you, what are you most likely to use?
It makes perfect sense to have a small visual
representation of yourself rather than an emoji
that everyone else uses and it is quite possible
that this new addition could be a huge success
as more and more people discover it uses.

to sign up for a developer account,
pay the yearly fee and then follow the
instructions to install the developer beta
version of iOS 13. There are the usual
caveats that you will experience some
crashes and unusual behaviour while the
software is being tweaked and Apple always
releases a public beta as well for which
more details are available at beta.apple.

experience iOS 13 right now.
