Step-by-step Getcreative withLivePhotos

1

Shoot a Live Photo
In your Camera, tap the circular Live icon
at the top to temporarily display a yellow LIVE
label. Tap the Capture button. This will record a
Live Photo with a three-second duration.

2

View the movie
Hold your finger on the Live Photo to view
the three-second clip. You can edit the shot on
your iPhone (see Knowledge base), but we’ll
work on it in the desktop Photos app.

3

Preview movement
After syncing your Live Photo via iCloud to
your desktop Photos, go to Albums. In Media
Types click on ‘Live Photos’. Place the cursor
over a thumbnail to preview its movement.

4

Choose a key photo
Double-click on a thumbnail. Click ‘Edit’.
You’ll see a series of frames below the Live
Photo. Scrub through to choose the best
frame. Click the ‘Make Key Photo’ label.

5

Edit colour and tone
When you tweak the colour and tone of
your key photo the adjustments are applied
to every frame. Choose File>Export>Export 1
Photo to create a still image to email/print.

6

Get creative
To create a Live Photo that will play non-
stop, set the dropdown menu to ‘Loop’. This
adds a mix (or dissolve) at the end of the Live
Photo sequence as it jumps back to the start.

Your iPhone streams the view through its lens. The resulting Live Photo
contains 1.5 seconds of footage from before and after you tap Record.

7

Back and forth
Create an animated clip with the Bounce
option. This makes the movie play forwards
then backwards. It works best with repetitive
movements like a swinging child.

8

Long Exposure
If you hold a camera’s shutter open for a
few seconds it turns moving objects such as
waves into impressionistic blurs. You can use a
Live Photo and Photos to produce this effect.

9

Share the animation
You’ll find the bouncing clip in the Photos
app’s Animated Album. To share it choose
File>Export>Export GIF. This creates a looping
animation that will play forever on the web.
