Share your iPhone

screen over Skype

E

ven though the majority of Apple users will turn to
FaceTime for video calls, Skype remains a favourite
when calling non-Apple users. With a new screen-
sharing feature for its iOS app, however, Skype may well
need a dusting down since it now allows you to use your
iPhone or iPad to let the person you’re in a conversation
with view whatever you’re seeing on your device.
The feature also lets you cross-platform so if the other
person is using a Mac, Android, Windows 10 or Linux, you
can still hook up and showcase your screen. Why do this?
Well, perhaps you want to jointly fill in a form displayed
on your device or maybe you want to do some shopping
together or collaborate on a work project. Whatever the
reason, the feature is just a tap away.

Step-by-step Broadcast your screen over Skype

1

Make a call
Open the Skype app on your iPhone or
iPad (ensuring it’s updated to iOS 12) and find
someone to connect with. Make a video call to
that person and wait for them to answer.

2

Launch the menu
At any point during your conversation,
you can tap the three-dotted menu button in
the bottom-right corner of the screen. This
calls up a menu – tap ‘Share Screen’.

3

Select recording source
Another menu appears letting you
know that everything on your screen will be
recorded. Select ‘Skype’ and, when you are
ready, tap ‘Start Broadcast’.

Sharing your screen over Skype can be useful when
collaborating on projects or shopping online...
