Step-by-step Password-protect photos in Notes

1

Go to Settings>Notes and then turn on
the ‘“On My iPhone” Account’ option, tap
‘Password’ and use set to ‘Use Touch ID’ or
set a new password.

2

Locate and share
Open your Photos app and find the
image you wish to hide, then tap on the
share icon and choose ‘Add to Notes’. Now
open your Notes app to find it.

3

Lock down note
Finally, open the photo note, tap on the
share icon and then choose the ‘Lock Note’
option and then enter the password. Now
delete the image from your Photos app.

Hide personal photos

using Notes

A

s you may or may not be aware, you can
‘hide’ personal photos on your iPhone
by tapping the share icon, selecting
the image and then choosing the ‘Hide Photo’
option. However, this only moves the photo to the
‘Hidden’ folder within the Albums section, which
in theory can still be accessed by someone else.
But there is a far more secure way to keep your
most precious images under lock and key using
the Notes app.
By attaching a photo to a note, as outlined in
this tutorial, you can then password-protect the
note itself to add a secondary line of defence
(behind whatever method you use to lock your
iPhone). For the highest level of security, you
will also need to ensure that the photo note isn’t
automatically backed up to iCloud by moving it
to your iPhone (see Knowledge Base) and then
deleting the original from your Photos library.

Go further than ‘hiding’ images in the Photos app
by locking them down in Notes instead!

Move note to your iPhone
If iCloud is your default Notes account then
you should move it to your ‘On Your iPhone’
account by tapping the ‘Edit’ button in the
top-right corner of the iCloud Notes screen,
selecting the note with the photo in and then
tapping ‘Move To...’ and selecting ‘Notes’
under the ‘On My iPhone’ section.
