Play Steam games on Apple TV

Stream your Steam library from your computer to your Apple
TV and play games on a big screen television

M

ore than a year ago, Apple
TV users began to get
quite excited at the news
Steam was launching an app that
would allow its library of games to be
streamed to the device. A short while
later, they felt dejected when Apple
decided to reject it.
Today, that appears to be a distant
memory because Steam Link is now
available. It requires Steam to be
installed and running on a Mac, PC or
Linux computer but you can hook into
that potentially vast library of yours
and play blockbuster first-person
shooters or whatever else takes
your fancy.
What’s more, you can do so
while controlling the action using a
traditional-style pad, either the one
Steam sells or an MFi alternative.
Sure, it’s all a little fiddly but it turns
Apple TV into a great gaming device.

The Steam Link brings a vast catalogue of quality
games to your Apple TV, on the big screen

1

Install Steam app
Assuming you already have Steam
installed on your computer, visit the App Store
to download and install the Steam Link app to
Apple TV. Launch Link and click ‘Get Started’.

2

Pair a controller
Connect a controller to get the most out
of your Steam games library on Apple TV. The
Steam Controller and other Bluetooth pads are
supported. Select the one you have.

3

Connect your computer
After pairing your controller (see opposite
page), Link will scan for a Mac or PC with
Steam installed. If Steam isn’t running, launch
it. Click ‘Rescan’ if there’s an issue.
