What is the best way to record audio
from my iPhone onto my Mac? Do I need
any special software for this? Kevin Proudman

Save the audio
Once you have clicked the button again to stop
the recording you will be able to play your recording
back. To save it, click on the red close button for the
option to export the audio recording.

Play and record
Tap the Play button in the iPhone app and the
audio should be diverted to your Mac speakers. In the
QuickTime Player app, click on the red Record button
and the stream will be recorded to your Mac.

Select AirPlay
Now go back to your iPhone, swipe up to access
your Control Centre and then look for the AirPlay
symbol in the corner of the Music panel. Tap the icon
and then choose the ‘System Capture’ option.

your Mac for the next part...

Connect your devices
Using the lightning USB cable, connect your
iPhone to your Mac and then tap ‘Trust’. Once it has
connected (your iPhone should start charging), open
the app containing the audio source.

How can I set up my
HomePod so that it plays
the audio for Apple TV?
First, ensure that your
HomePod is powered and
set up – which means that it
is connected to your Wi-Fi
and iCloud account – then
launch your Apple TV and
open the Settings app. The
Settings app on Apple TV
allows you to directly select
your HomePod speaker by
picking up its presence in
your home. Scroll down and
select the ‘Video and Audio’
option. We want to direct the
sound from your Apple TV
to the HomePod, so scroll
down the list of options on
this next screen and under
Audio, select the ‘Audio
Output’ option. Since your
HomePod uses AirPlay and
is connected to your Wi-Fi,
the device will appear in the
list of available speakers.
Select the HomePod so
that it becomes the default
speaker. It is also possible
to select the HomePod
as the speaker for Apple
TV direct from the Apple
TV Home screen. To do
this, just hold the Play/
Pause button on the Siri
remote. Now choose the
HomePod from the menu
that appears. This is a much
quicker method of flicking
between your HomePod
and any other audio output
devices that you may have
available. To disconnect, go
to Settings on your Apple
TV and then go to Video and
Audio>Audio Output>Other
Speakers, highlight the
HomePod and disconnect.

No, your Mac already has all of the software it needs, and it is an app
called QuickTime Player (press Cmd+spacebar and search for it in
Spotlight). This app specialises in screen and audio recordings, so all you
need to do is connect your iPhone to your Mac, select it as a microphone
within QuickTime and then press Play on your iPhone and Record on your
Mac. We will guide you through the whole process here...
