Strategic Components of Human Resource Management
Relevant to Internal Fit
- Management Awareness. Ranges from a focus on
administrative needs, such as hiring and firing, to a full
integration of human resource considerations in all
management decision making. - Management of the Function. Includes the
structure of the human resource function and the
planning, allocation, and control of its resources. The
structure may vary from very loose or nonexistent
through matrixed and decentralized. - Portfolio of Programs. Ranges from simple salary
administration and record-keeping programs to very
complex and sophisticated flexible compensation,
environmental scanning, and long-range planning
programs. - Personnel Skills. Personnel professionals need
appropriate skills. Basic programs and simple
information systems require basic skills. The addition of
complex programs and growth in size requires more
advanced, differentiated, and specialized skills.
