Results indicated that teams were more effective and
demonstrated more helping behaviors when bonuses were
allocated within the team on the basis of equity. As the size of
the bonuses increased, there was also a significant increase in
team productivity and effectiveness. In addition, there was
significantly greater satisfaction with the team bonuses when
members perceived that team performance was linked to team
bonuses and when they perceived clear goals for the team.
While such compensation practices have a positive impact on
team performance, these results are not reported in Table 5-1
because they do not address the direct impact on the
performance of the firm.^18
