Strategic Human Resource Management

(Barry) #1

Section Six
Regardless of the eventual direction of unionization in the
future, unionization is very much a reality in many industries.
For example, unionized workers constitute the following
percentages of workers in the following industries: 25.5 percent
in transportation and public utilities, 19.1 percent in
construction, and 15.6 percent in manufacturing. Furthermore,
37.3 percent of governmental employees are unionized.^74
Nonunion companies should not become complacent to the
prospects of unionization and should periodically evaluate their
organizational climate and human resource policies in order to
determine whether they may encourage unionization.
