when employing the IR photographic technique, it should not be interpreted
as a failure of the technique. Situations can occur wherein IR techniques are
less effective than visible spectrum photography.
11.14 Application and Use of Forensic Photography
It bears repeating that even when nonvisible light photography is performed
perfectly, images may not appear in the resultant photographs. This does not
necessarily indicate a failure of the techniques. Rather, it may just mean that
the injuries are not such that the incident wavelength of nonvisible light doesn’t
“see” the injuries based on the components in the injured skin. It must also
be pointed out that even if the techniques work and images are captured, the
resultant images may not add to the evidentiary value (Figures 11.40 to 11.47).
