12.1 Introduction
Multiple fatality incident (MFI) is now the common term given to the fatal
results of any mass disaster. In this chapter the management of an MFI will be
discussed and specific issues will be addressed. The overall response includes
a multitude of agencies, and their interaction is critical to the success of any
MFI operation. The world has experienced several overwhelming MFIs in
the recent past. The World Trade Center attack, the Pentagon attack, and the
Pennsylvania crash all related to the 9/11 terrorist’s attacks left the United
