The graduate Interior Design program
was ranked first in the country by
both U.S. News and World Report and
DesignIntelligence in 2012. Students
are drawn from all parts of the world
and, by way of the Qualifying Program,
from a variety of disciplines, which
creates an intellectually and aesthetically
stimulating ambience in the studios.
These students are a select group who
understand that creativity is a serious
business. They come to Pratt to work
hard and prepare to enter a profession in
which the designer must be multifaceted
and able to provide innovative design
solutions. Many come to the program for
career change, so classroom interchange
is enhanced by the diversity of students’
interests. For instance, the designer who
comes from a background in economics
has a very different approach from
one coming from dance, and each has
something to learn from the other.
Our faculty members are practicing
professionals who bring real-world design
experience into play in their classroom
teaching. Their varied backgrounds and
expertise allow students to explore many
avenues of design.
Building upon its reputation as one of
the top graduate programs in the country,
the graduate Interior Design program
seeks to expand its leadership role, setting
standards for critical thought, exemplary
expression, professional aptitude, and
responsible action in transforming the
human environment. The curriculum
brings the rigor as well as broad and deep
