structures can offer a unique lesson: the
interaction of physical cause and cultural
effect on the built environment, and
its cumulative presence through time.
Special field trips to the northern and
southern regions expand on the depth and
range of the historical sites and subjects
during the semester.
The faculty is composed of a select
group of historians, archaeologists,
artists, architects, and educators presently
residing in Rome. They, together with a
visiting New York critic or critics, oversee
the design studios. The spring program
offers 18 credits, of which 10 are required
in studio design, urban studies, and
freehand drawing. Five additional credits
are in Renaissance, Baroque, and modern
art and architectural history, and three
credits are in Italian language, culture, and
film. The summer program, which takes
place in June, offers three graduate credits.
