CHAPTER SEVEN

To move the fi sh to the hero plate, slip a spatula under
the fi sh and acrylic sheet. Hold the spatula with fi sh over
the hero plate. Make certain the fi sh is turned with the
best presentation to camera. Slide the fi sh assembly onto
the plate. Make certain the camera does not see the
acrylic sheet. Misting the fi sh lightly with water will give
it a fresh-cooked, moist appearance.

Our cooked fi sh image is shot within a large skillet that
has sloping sides. We wanted our fi sh to appear as though

steamed on a bed of vegetables. In order to keep the fi sh
on a solid surface, I constructed a support for the fi sh hero
using a STYROFOAM block. Th e block is held in place
with windowpane putty. Once the vegetables were prepped,
I built the vegetables around the block and covered the
entire assembly with damp paper towels and plastic wrap
until the fi sh hero was ready to be placed into the scene.
