I’m not happy with my girlfriend

but I don’t want to be alone

Hey Terra,
I’ve been with my girlfriend for a couple of months, which is twice as long as any other rela-
tionship I’ve ever had. At first, we both liked each other the same (maybe I liked her a little
more), but now it’s the complete opposite. She tells me she loves me all the time. I don’t dis-
like her, but I’m sure not in love with her. I’m not the kind of person who would say it if he
didn’t mean it, so I feel really uncomfortable with her telling me that all the time. The other
thing is that there’s really no one else that I like, so I’m not sure it’s so smart to break up with
her because then I won’t have a girlfriend. What should I do?

She Loves Me

Dear She Loves Me,
It’s hard to let go of the person who loves you, but at the same time, it’s unfair to hold on to
someone you don’t truly care for. You may be leading your girlfriend to believe that you feel
the same way about her, even though you haven’t actually said the words, “I love you.”
If you’re honest with your girlfriend and tell her you’re not in love with her, you might either
pave the way for a new level of communication between you or cause a breakup. If the rela-
tionship ends, you’ll be alone for a while, but at least you’ll know you were truthful and had
the courage to stop pretending about a relationship that didn’t mean that much to you. I hope
this helps!

In friendship,
Terra
