FOLLOW THE LEADER
wilderness furnace of testing! As you read
through the New Testament, you hear
many exhortations to patience. A very helpful
study on patience can be found in the
following verses:
- “For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no
hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we
hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently”
(Romans 8:24-25).
- “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not
boast, it is not proud” (I Corinthians 13:4).
- “If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if
we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in
you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer” (II
Corinthians 1:6).
- “...being strengthened with all power according to His
glorious might so that you may have great endurance and
patience... Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly
loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility,
gentleness and patience” (Colossians 1:11; 3:12).
- “And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle,
encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with
everyone” (1 Thessalonians 5:14).
- “But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the
worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display His unlimited
patience as an example for those who would believe on Him
and receive eternal life” (I Timothy 1:16).
- “You, however, know all about my teaching, my way of life, my
purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance...Preach the Word;
be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and
encourage – with great patience and careful instruction” (II
Timothy 3:10; 4:2).
