angels seated at a table with a tablecloth, the back-
ground with a mountain on the right and a temple
on the left, within a gilt strapwork border, a mod-
ern Cyrillic inscription in lower border.

Russian Folding Triptych Icon
The brown painted ground rectangular panel cen-
tering a silver oklad clad figure of the Christ as a
King with a gilt halo, holding his right hand up in
peace, flanked on left by silver oklad figure of Mary
and on right by another manifestation of Christ as
a man, mounted in an intricately carved shadow
box triptych hinged frame headed by a trefoil sil-
ver medallion cast with an ecclestical procession.
Cyrillic inscription “Believe in Christ”.

The figure of the Patron Saint, wearing an elabo-
rate regal fur lined cape, his head enclosed by a gilt
tooled halo, standing next to a green fabric lined
table with a crown, reserved against a gilt pale blue
arch form surround and gilt strapwork border.

Evangelists
Circa 1900
Each four petal leaf form depicting one of the
Evangelist, his Gospel manuscript and paired with
his associated Apocalyptic creature, each reserved
against an elaborate gilt ground, each with a Cyrillic
inscription and written manuscript pages.
Dimensions of each 13 3/4 x 13 1/2 x 3/4 inches
(34.9 x 34.2 x 1.9 cm).
The iconography of the Four Evangelists includes
Matthew and a winged human, symbolic of the
humanity of Christ; Mark and the winged lion sym-
bolic of Christ as a King; Luke and the winged ox
symbolic as Christ as a Priest; lastly, John and the
eagle symbolic of Chrst’s divine nature.
