Russian Gilt Painted Panel of the
Entombment of Christ
In the Byzantine Style, 19th Century
The gilt ground rectangular panel depicting a
painted figure of a recumbent Christ in the sep-
ulcher, behind a horizontal procession of Mary
Magdalene, Joseph of Anmathea, Nicodemus,
Saint John and Virgin Mary, flanked by two angels,
enclosed by a wide gilt threaded border with embroi-
dered band of stylized leaves and Cyrillic inscriptions

Bronze Monstrance
Circa 1900.
The waisted columnar standard issuing a berried
branch, a crown of thorns mounted beveled
glass inset drum form case enclosed by a pierced
trefoil surround with a finely enameled band
and an outer vine band on top of a spiky sun-
burst band, mounted on a cartouche plinth base
cast with leaf tips raised on four berried spray
feet, with fitted carrying case.
Height 26 1/2 inches (67 cm)

Late 19th Century
Each ovoid form with twin applied bearded
Bacchanalian masks with horns and grape vine
crowns, above twin cartouche panels hand painted
with rural tavern scenes, the square base with a gilt
painted pebble form border, each dome form cover,
one with a convertible candlestick, the base with the
underglaze blue Augustus Rex mark.
Height 11 3/4 inches (29.8 cm).

Late 19th Century
The baluster footed form with twin applied fluted
loop handles with leafy caps, the neck and shoulder
with gilt heightened guilloche, egg and dart borders,
each side centering a painted panoramic landscape
panel, reserve against a rich cobalt glaze ground with
elaborate raised antheniom leaves below handles,
the spreading circular base with an fluted border, the
lid with a leafy clad berried knob finial, the base with
an orange painted “KPM” orb and underglaze blue scep-
tre mark.
