- epilepsy: Disease that causes seizures, a period of lost consciousness that may include violent muscle con-
tractions. - meningitis: Infection of the membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord.
- migraine: Severe type of headache that occurs when blood vessels in the head expand.
- Reye’s syndrome: Condition that causes swelling of the brain; can occur among young people who take
aspirin when they have a viral infection. - tumor: Mass of cells that grows out of control.
