Dana White, King of MMA

not care about spending the holidays with his family, but instead he wanted to hang
out with friends over the holidays. Christmas and Thanksgiving were always a big deal
at our house, and he could have cared less about being with his family. I decided he
could come home for Thanksgiving and Christmas but he would be traveling by bus. It
was to take three days, traveling day and night.
However, things did not turn out as planned, and the trip was certainly an
experience of a lifetime for Dana. Dana did not get home until after the Thanksgiving
holiday and had to go back to Maine after a very, very short stay in Vegas. At major
bus stops, he would call me to let me know where he was and how things were going.
In Detroit, he called me to inform me he had to go to the bathroom but the clientele
that were at that bus station were suspect at best and he could not bring himself to
go into the bathroom. I asked, “What do you think I can do?”
He said, “I don’t know, but I thought you might think of something.”
It was in Detroit that he got on the wrong bus and, instead of heading for Las
Vegas, ended up in Wyoming. I was at the bus station in Vegas waiting for his bus
when he called to tell me he made a mistake at one of the bus stops and got back on
the wrong bus. I had to buy another ticket to get him to Vegas, and it took another
whole day of traveling for him to arrive. For the Christmas holiday, I bought him a
plane ticket, but I think the cross-country bus trip was really an eye opening
experience for him.
At the time he transferred to Hermon High School, Dana had enough credits from
Gorman that he only needed to take three classes. He graduated from Hermon High
School in Bangor, Maine in June of 1987. I had finally gotten him through high school.
His sister Kelly, his girlfriend Jenny Wynn, his Uncle Richard and Aunt Michele and
their daughter Jessica, and his grandmother and I all went to Bangor for his
graduation. Dana returned to Las Vegas after the graduation.
