Return to Vegas

When Dana returned to Las Vegas, he had no idea what he was going to do. He
had no money and no prospects. Almost all his friends he had gone to Bishop Gorman
High School with were still living in Las Vegas, however, and one of them was Anne
Stella. Anne worked at a salon as a manicurist, doing people’s nails and lived at home
with her parents and sisters when Dana met her after returning to Las Vegas. They
started dating and soon they were married, but from day one, theirs was a turbulent
union, a union straight from hell.
Dana went to the Department of Motor Vehicles as soon as he arrived in Las Vegas
to get his license switched from Massachusetts to Nevada, but he found out that
Maine had something in the national registry that would prevent him from getting his
license in Nevada until he cleared up the problem in Maine. Dana called and told me
what was going on. I asked him if he had a parking ticket or driving violation he
hadn’t taken care of before he left Maine, and he told me no. He then proceeded to
tell me that he was supposed to appear in court. He had gotten into a fight in a 7-11
parking lot where he and some other high school kids were hanging out, the police
were called, and he was arrested. He had decided he was close to graduation and
would be leaving Maine and so he just didn’t go to court for the incident. Now there
was a warrant out for his arrest for failure to appear in court. Dana was lucky that
fact was not available to the DMV or he would have been arrested on the spot in Las
Vegas.
I told Dana to call the police station in Maine and see what he needed to do to
take care of the issue. Of course, it was not going to be anything that easy. They told
Dana there was nothing that could be done unless he returned to Maine. When Dana
told me he was going to have to go back to Maine to clear up the problem, I explained
that, if he went back like they wanted, he would be arrested the minute he showed
up. I told him there had to be some other way. I then called the prosecutor’s office to
see what we could do without Dana returning to Maine, but they were having no part
of it and said he would have to return to Maine.
