and Chief of Staff for the Facilitator of the Inter-Congolese Dialogue
2000–2003. He has worked as Programme Director for Save the Children
UK in the DRC, Rwanda, Burundi and southern Sudan, and, earlier, as
Manager of Juba Boatyard (1976–1981). He was Co-Director of the 2004
Rift Valley Institute Sudan Course and Director of the 2010 Great Lakes
Course.

Suliman Baldo is Africa Director at the International Center for
Transitional Justice. He has also worked for Human Rights Watch and
the International Crisis Group. He was a Lecturer at the University of
Khartoum, Field Director for Oxfam America (covering Sudan and the
Horn of Africa), and was the founder and Director of Al-Fanar Center
for Development Services in Khartoum.

WEndy JamEs CbE is Professor Emeritus of Social Anthropology at
the University of Oxford. Her books include The Ceremonial Animal: A New
Portrait of Anthropology (2004) and War and Survival in Sudan’s Frontierlands:
Voices From the Blue Nile (2007). She has acted as a consultant for UNHCR
and other humanitarian bodies, in southern Sudan and in Ethiopia, and
is Vice-President of the British Institute in Eastern Africa.
