501 Geometry Questions

(Jacob Rumans) #1

Set 100

  1. False. The x- and y-coordinate will switch places, but only one of
them will change sings. Which one depends on if the rotation is
    clockwise or counterclockwise.

  2. False. U(8,–3) would become U'(3,8) after being rotated
    90 ̊counter clockwise.

  3. True.Rotating points 90 ̊clockwise results in (y,-x) so (3,3) would
become (3,–3). Reflecting points over the x-axis results in (x,–y)
so again, (3,3) would become (3,–3).

  4. P'(–2,–8).When a point is rotated 90 ̊ clockwise around the
origin, the image point will be A'(y,–x). Since H and G underwent
this transformation, point P must undergo the same transformation.

  5. Since ΔDOG is in Quadrant IV, its vertices will have a positive
x-coordinate and a negative y-coordinate. If it is rotated 180°
clockwise orcounterclockwise it will have coordinate pairs with
negative x-coordinates and positive y-coordinates and will therefore
be in Quadrant II. Another way to accomplish this is to reflect
ΔDOG over the x-axis and then reflect ΔD'O'G' over the y-axis
(the reverse of this would also work).
