Project Fruity Lunch Bag

You will need

  • 2x stitched panels (of 2 pattern

repeats each) and 2x oilcloth

panels, 19x33cm (7½x13in)

  • 2x side panels and 2x side oilcloth

panels, 12x33cm (4¾x13in)

  • 1x base panel and 1x base oilcloth

panel, 12x19cm (4¾x7½in)

  • 66cm (26in) of bias binding

  • 2x press studs

1 Mark 1cm (½in) seam along all

four edges of your base panel, on the

wrong side of the fabric. Pin your side

panels to your base panel along the

short edges to create one long panel.

Stitch in place along the short edge,

leaving a 1cm (½in) gap on the corner

  • remember to reinforce your ends by

reverse stitching over them.

2 Pin the long edge of your base

panel to the bottom edge of your

front stitched panel, with right sides

facing. Stitch in place using the 1cm

(½in) seam allowance, leaving a 1cm

(½in) gap on the corner.

3 Line the long edges of the side

panels up with the long edges of one

of your stitched panels and pin in

place. Stitch in place with your 1cm

(½in) seam allowance. Repeat along

the other side of your side panels with

the other stitched panel to complete

the outer bag. Turn through and press.

4 To create your waterproof lining,

repeat steps 1, 2 and 3 with your

oilcloth panel. Trim away some of the

excess fabric from your seams.

5 Insert the inside-out lining

into your outer bag and pin together,

lining up the top edges. Fold bias

binding over raw edges and stitch in

place to attach the outer lining.

6 Fold the top of your bag over

twice to work out the positioning of

your press studs – mark with tailor’s

chalk. Stitch the press studs into

position to finish.
