and Innovation in Design. Your project can also earn additional points when
it incorporates green-building innovations. The level of certification your
project is awarded depends on points earned, and ranges progressively from
Certified, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Figure 11-2 shows the Molecular Foundry
at Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory, which achieved a LEED Gold certifi-
cation. Compared with conventional building methods, this facility emits 85
percent less greenhouse gases, as shown in Figure 11-3.
Currently, 2,000 buildings are registered for new construction that adheres
to LEED. Since 2000, 45 million square feet of structured property has been
LEED certified.
