I’m passionate about both

the composition and the

subject matter of Solitary

Strength. The focus of this

image is the tree, and

I spent the most time

creating its detail, using

household materials to

achieve the rough, wood-

like feel. The form and

angles of the tree, and the

placement of the leopard,

are what give this painting

its creative composition.

Not being able to see the boys’ full faces allows us to wonder what

they’re thinking. By showing one boy in profile and just the back of the

other one, I created a sense of internalization; nostalgia is augmented

by the use of a limited palette and the atmospheric background.
