In 2009 brothers Richard
and Mark Walsh similarly
started near Lechlade when
they decided to swim the non-
tidal Thames to raise money
for leukaemia research,
following the death of one of
Mark’s teaching colleagues.
Two years earlier the pair had
swum the length of all the
lakes in the Lake District –
fifty miles in forty-eight
hours to raise money for
Guide Dogs for the Blind.
