came from Stepney, others
from Barking, Bermondsey,
Borough, Shoreditch,
Tottenham, Bethnal Green
and Walthamstow. Teachers
brought their classes to the
beach as well, just as
stateschool pupils would be
taken to Thames baths at
Oxford and Reading and
