He was born on the Isle of
Dogs in 1941 and remembers
two areas where you could
swim officially, Tower
Bridge and Greenwich. βIt
was strange really, we were
allowed to swim but if a
worker on the river fell in he
spent three days in hospital
under observation. But we
grew up in post-war London
and our playground was the
Thames. You could find so
many things on the river. If
