it’s a disappointingly small
book, just 270 pages. I was
expecting a huge manual. I sit
down at one of the reading
desks; above the bookcases
the white stone walls are
hung with ancient portraits.
The silence is broken only by
the squeaking of shoes as
someone walks past and the
sound of my neighbour
tapping away on her laptop.
I start leafing through the
manual, looking at sections
