T.C. Easton, attempted a six-
day swim to Teddington. On
22 September he
‘commenced one of the most
genuinely sportsmanlike
performances ever
attempted,’ reported the
Morning Post admiringly. He
would swim ninety-one miles
to Teddington, covering eight
