in southeast London in the
1970s and the Thames was a
floating rubbish dump. Today
it’s an ever-improving
environment for wildlife, but
it’s not bathing water.’ The
three main risks are the cold,
flooding and possible
infection, but ‘if people take
precautions there is no reason
why they shouldn’t swim’.
