Meadow. Women may have
been allowed to swim at
Abingdon’s bathing place for
four days a week in 1881, and
one day a week at Oxford’s
Tumbling Bay in 1893, but in
Reading they got a whole
pool to themselves, in what
appears to be the first
women-only bathing spot on
the River Thames.
