formed in 1894 ‘to encourage
the most necessary
accomplishment for all who
love boating and fishing’,
swam and competed at the
Baths. Their first president
was Mr R. Ovey, who lent his
name to the Ovey Challenge
Cup, a monthly 100 yards
race starting at 7 p.m.
Some twenty years after the
Baths were built a new
