is reprinted in paperback, particularly if there is a separate paper-
back house keeping the backlist available. Hardcovers go out of
print anyway. Continuity is the key.
Now, 1 am not a fool: I do not imagine that anyone is actually
going to follow my advice about when to go full-time. The decision
tends to be emotional. It is tied up with ego, self-image, stress at
work, long-time dreams, envy of others, and other factors.
If you are considering turning full-time, however, I hope you will
think carefully about your timing. The number-one mistake I have
seen authors make over the years is going full-time too soon.
