Zariman, again posing as a
doppelgänger of the Operator, but
they’re the one who gave the Tenno
the power of the void that allowed
them to save themselves.
It’s part of a deal though, one they
have the Operator shake on. My
money is on there being some kind of
debt to be repaid, and a long time in
the making cost for the power the
Tenno have wielded.
This information is what allows
the Operator to return from the void
in the present, an action which
reveals that, yes, the Drifter was not
the Operator but someone else. Sort
of. It’s a twist that was originally
intended to be part of The Duviri
Paradox but brought forward to
better set up that coming expansion.
“It’s very difficult to set up the world
of Duviri with a blank slate, so we
wanted to ensure that the concept of
Duviri could be introduced earlier.”
But as to whether the person sown in
The Duviri Paradox trailer was an
older version of the Operator or
simply the Drifter, Digital Extremes
isn’t giving anything away. “The bestclarification I could give you would
be, that when The Duviri Paradox
launches, you’ll have your answer.”CATCH MY DRIFT
The Drifter is a version of the
Operator that never received the
powers of the void, and had to
survive aboard the Zariman alone. It’s
a rug pull as audacious as the initial
reveal of the Operator in The SecondDream. Warframe has mastered the
art of ‘you’re not playing as the
person you think you are’ and using it
as a clever device to explore its
themes of identity. This game has two
versions of its main character, from
two different realities! I cannot wait
to see how that’s going to pan out.

Wall finally makes an appearance in
